Beauty Passing

Has someone ever walked by and made you feel like you want to abandon everything to start a love affair with them?

I caught you in my eye,
like some unsuspecting fly,
but you continued
without noticing me.
As if you were a shooting star
passing through my atmosphere.

How dare you tramp on by
without a glance in my direction?

I made a feeble attempt
to reach for you,
I had as much luck catching
as a kid grasping for his candy
that won’t stop rolling away;
my hands closed on air
and still, you marched on.

How can I continue
now
that I know such beauties as you exist?
Does poetry still have its rhyme?
The sun its shine?
